  1. I asked my wife, and she replied, “Yes, in moderation”.

What do you think? I was always in favour of femimism, and protested loudlly when my father proposed to only send me, not my sister, to university (“She’ll get married, have children and it will be wasted”). Unfortunately, feminism became strident and alienated a lot of well- meaning, supportive men.

My wife, a born American, finds there is much more extreme, bad-tempered feminism in the British Press than you ever see in America, and this must exasperate those who, like good Epicureans, believe in the equality of the sexes.

    • Of course I believe in equality of the sexes, and feminism has historically been a fantastic movement to achieve this, Unfortunately, as of late, a new ‘militant’ feminism has emerged, that perceives discrimination even when there is none. I’m sure there are plenty of areas of life where women still do not have it equal with men, but that is not always because of the ‘patriarchy.’ I also believe in the freedom of men and women to live lives the way they want, and if the result is an underrepresentation of women in certain aspects of life, then that is the price we pay for having the right to choose. In most instances, liberalism must come before feminism.

      • I remember a very difficult and aggressive woman who joined the company. She was always complaining and hated taking any instructions from a man. She was an uber-feminist, and very unpleasant to work with. She sucked the oxygen out of everything. I knew that if I fired her she would go straight to a tribunal claiming gender discrimination. So I got together the women in the company, explained the situation, and asked them how they felt. The consensus was, get rid of her. When I explained to the tribunal that I had consulted all her female colleagues, the case was promptly dismissed.

This is the problem: nasty, disagreeable people blame things on everything but their own personalities, and use their genders as weapons. Fortunately, they are small in number but make a lot of noise. England isreLly a very tolerant country. It doesn’t deserve this.
