Well said!

To The Sunday Times
I applaud India Knight on inappropriate use of mobile phones. It reminds me of a polite notice I have seen recently taped to the front of a till in a busy café on a university campus: “We appreciate your phone call is very important to you, therefore we will not interrupt it to serve you until you have finished it.”.  (Hayley Keating, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire)

When I was last in England a group of us went to Oxford and punted up the Cherwell to a pub for lunch. We disembarked, tied up the punt and walked towards the pub. Half way across the open space there was a shelter, under which there was a couple in a serious clinch, sitting on a bench. The man was deeply involved in the amorous situation, but his girlfriend, with her arms round his neck, had a cellphone in her left hand and was busy texting, unknown to her paramour.

Epicurus would have been shocked. So were we, so much so that no one thought to take a photo.  I hope someone versed in Epicureanism would have been behaving in a more friendly, or at least decorous, manner.
